Notes predecessor version
- This version of the easyNWK software requires a Java runtime environment. Steps for its installation can be found under System requirements. If you are not sure whether Java is already available on your computer, you can also do this after the easyNWK installation.
- The .zip file must be unpacked after the download. This can be done, for example, in Windows Explorer by right-clicking and selecting "Extract all...".
Start the software by double-clicking on the file easyNWK_pro_1.5.0.jar. This is located in the easyNWK1.5 folder (if you did not change the target in the previous step).
If the double-click start does not work, you need a current version of Java on your computer (see system requirements).
The easyNWK software is based on Java, a platform-independent programming language, and therefore requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE). For security reasons, we generally recommend a current version with long-term support (LTS). Java 8 is to be supported until May 2026.
Please note that since 2019, a paid licence is required for the commercial use of Oracle's Java Standard Edition. As a free alternative, there is the open-source software OpenJDK from several providers (e.g. AdoptOpenJDK or Redhat).
More detailed operating system-specific information can be found below:
Windows
AdoptOpenJDK automatically suggests an installation programme for your operating system. For the selection options, we recommend "OpenJDK 8 (LTS)" and "HotSpot".
Windows (without administration rights)
- Open the website https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html
- Select the version "OpenJDK 8 (LTS)", the operating system "Windows" and the architecture "x86".
- Click on the download .zip button for the "JRE" package.
- Unzip the ZIP, rename the folder containing the "bin" folder to "jre" and move it to the easyNWK1.5 folder.
- Download the file easyNWK.bat and move it into the easyNWK1.5 folder.
- Double-click on easyNWK.bat to start easyNWK.
Linux
In most Linux distributions a current version of Java (version 6 or newer) is already integrated. If not, we recommend installing the current LTS version of OpenJDK via the mechanisms of the respective Linux distribution.
Alternatively, as for Windows, the installation packages from AdoptOpenJDK or Oracle are available.
MAC OS
The latest versions of the Mac OS support Java 6. If your Mac version still has problems, run a software update in the "Apple" menu. For more information, go to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338?viewlocale=de_DE&locale=de_DE
Under Mac OS X, the software works exactly as described, but the following changes occur in the operation compared to PCs:
- Instead of CTRL under Windows, the CTRL or COMMAND key must be pressed on the Mac keyboard.
- On the latest Macbooks, the described right-click on the mouse pad corresponds to a two-finger click.
The programme supports the calculation of the network map. To do this, click on Menu > Start Analysis. After a storage location has been specified, the analysis file is saved in .csv format and can be opened with Excel, Notepad or the like.
In the basic version of easyNWK, the following key figures are calculated:
- Total network size
- Number of female / male contacts
- Network size per sector / per horizon
- Density (total density, sector density, horizon density)
- Seam total
- Star, Isolated person(s), Bridge person(s)
